This smoothie has become my favorite breakfast for now. This has all the goodness of oats, fruits and the necessary calcium and protein that keeps me filled without making me feel heavy. Usually when I make oatmeal for breakfast, no matter what some gets left over and when I get back home after dropping the kids in school, I’m not sure about you all but the look of the oatmeal is a sticky gooey mass which in short looks “Yuck” to me. This smoothie just happened when I was pondering over how to put that leftover super cold oatmeal to good use, as I did not have the heart to dump it right away into the sink.
Also my MIL wanted to what else to make using oats as they have been advised to include more oats into their diet. Since it always just a porridge that she know to make, I bought a jumbo pack of oats and have demonstrating her on the recipes that could be rustled up with the super grain called oats. I must say that she was super impressed with the recipes. So you will be seeing a lot of recipes with oats in the near future.
Oatmeal Banana Breakfast Smoothie
You’ll need:
- Cooked oatmeal – 1 cup
- Banana – 1
- Yogurt / Curd – 1/4 cup
- Milk – 1/2 to 3/4 cup
- Almonds – 8 to 10
- Honey – 2 to 3 tbsp
- Ice cubes – 5 to 6
Method:
Soak the almonds in little hot water and remove the skin.
Place the almonds in a blender and pulse it coarsely.
Add the rest of ingredients and blend together well.
Pour into tall glasses and Serve. I just added a blob of melted chocolate on top.
I normally do not add ice cubes but instead use chilled yogurt and milk.
Notes:
- You can avoid honey and instead add dates syrup if you have which will make it even more healthy.
- When making this for my kids I add a tsp of vanilla essence which gives it a milkshake sort of flavor. This is also to avoid my younger one from detecting banana.
- You can adjust all the ingredients to your taste and the consistency you prefer.

very healthy smoothie....
What an amazing breakfast! And I totally empathise with you about the yucky leftover porridge :S I'll try that one for sure- looks like a great weekend pick-me-up. I love oats too, and they are such a healthy grain that is perfectly suited to colder weather. Instead of the melted chocolate I might add a little blob of delicious date syrup....
Very good breakfast idea especially for people who do not have time!!!

very very healthy... love this
wonderful recipe :) if u're hard pressed for time in the mornings, just add the quick cooking oats straight into the mixie (uncooked)along with the milk & banana. I normally add homemade badam milk pd (simply grind almond, pista, cardamom, pinch nutmeg), flax seed pd along with date syrup. The badam pd also helps to get rid of the oat-y smell. To date, my fussy daughter doesnt know quite what goes into that banana smoothie she loves so much ;)
This is really ideal for breakfast. Healthy and tasty
So nice of you to give so many options. You can come up with a zillion things. For me my kids are okay with oats but my younger kids does not like bananas but has been advised to take compulsorily to treat constipation. So I try to add bananas in whatever possible without him trying to find it out.
How does the milk-curd combo work out?!!!
